  PRE- EXAMINATION TRAINING CENTRE (PETC)  
 
Training courses for different competitive examinations are conducted at two PETCs in the State. The PETCsare located at Salt Lake, Bikash Bhavan (4th Floor) at the office of DWO, BCW, Kolkata and Jalpaiguri Town at the office of the PO cum DWO, BCW, Jalpaiguri. The respective DWO/PO cum DWO are the Course Directors.
 
The training programme is implemented by the WB SC & ST Development & Finance Corporation having its office at 217/1/A, CF Block, Salt Lake.
 
The courses at both the centres are conducted at free of cost. Stipend is also given to all the eligible trainees.
 
SALT LAKE CENTRE:
Trainings are imparted for 2 courses namely, Miscellaneous Services Examinations and Clerkship Examinations conducted by PSC.
Experienced retired IAS, WBCS officers are the external faculty members including one regular Govt. Teacher.
Courses   usually begin in January and July every year.
Advertisement inviting application is published in newspaper.
Candidates are selected on the basis of academic performance.
Sanctioned capacity for training in each course is 40 (forty)
Candidates from SC and ST are selected at the ratio of 3:1.
Subjects taught are –Bengali, English, Mathematics, General Knowledge & Current Affairs.

JALPAIGURI CENTRE:
Trainings are imparted for 3 courses namely, WBCS, Clerkship Examinations of PSC and School Service Commission (SSC).
Experienced Teachersand WBCS Officers take classes.
Courses usually begin in January, April and October respectively for Clerkship, WBCS and SSC every year.
Advertisement inviting application is published in newspapers and broadcasted / telecasted in Akashbani/ Doordarshan.
Candidates are selected on the basis of academic performance and selection test.
Sanctioned capacity for training in each course is 50 (fifty).
Candidates from SC , ST and OBC are selected at the ratio of 6: 3:1.
Content of the courses are designed as per the syllabus of the concerned examinations.
There is provision of hostel accommodation for the trainees. For the hostellers maintenance grant is provided.
